Graham Cox

One of our three long time Honorary Members Graham Cox sadly passed away in October just after having achieved his 94th birthday. Graham hadn’t sung with us for the last few years but maintained an interest and his BABS membership.

He was a member of Oxford Harmony’s predecessor White Horse Harmony and was also involved in Scouting and the annual local Gang Show.

There was a good turnout for his send-off at St. Matthew’s church, Harwell to support his wife Anne and son Peter. All joined in with the singing of “How great Thou art!” and listened to a eulogy from Peter which shared with us details of the very full life he had led. Music and Barbershop singing had played a significant part of that. As well as having been a member of White Horse Harmony before joining Oxford Harmony as a baritone he also sang in a quartet ‘Sounds Easy’ as well as appearing in the Gang Show through his lifelong Scouting involvement, which he referred to as ‘Gold Dust in my Life’. When in later years, and suffering some ill health, he would sing and would say ‘Dr Barbershop’ always appeared and he felt fine!

Towards the end of the church service we sang Irish Blessing which Graham had asked for. Anne and Peter told us afterwards how grateful they were that we could do that. He was a lovely man and we learned more about him as we chatted over tea and cake afterwards.
